Costa Rica edges Panama 1-0

Philadelphia, PA – Costa Rica beat Panama 1-0 in the opening match of quarter finals of the Gold Cup. The lone goal came in the 77th minute off he head of Panama’s Anibal Godoy (OG). The own goal was all Costa Rica needed to go through to the semi-finals.

Costa Rica controlled much of the match and had several changes early but the late winner was enough to see them through.  Panama had as many shots at Costa Rica with seven but they were mostly from counter attacks and long balls.

Next up Costa Rica will be the winner of the USA – El Salvador match, also being played in Philadelphia.
