Frisco, Texas- The Costa Rica women’s national team,” Las Ticas” came into the Olympic qualifying tournament as one of the underdogs. The favorites to win the group in which they were placed (A) was United States, and Mexico. Las Ticas however made everyone eat their words, by finishing in second in their group, last night. The Ticas beat Mexico 2-1 on goals from on fire Raquel Rodriguez. The first goal came in just the first 9 minutes of the game. The second goal came at the 55th minute on a penalty kick. Mexico’s only goal came from veteran Maribel Dominguez on a stunning bicycle kick at the 80th minute. The last ten minutes the Mexicans battled but just could not make that one last goal. Raquel Rodriguez was named Player of the Match for the second game in a row. The Ticas will now face Canada for a spot to the Olympics.
